About Us
What is Localhood?
Localhood is where content creators can get paid to share the experiences that make their local regions unique. Localhood is powered by CrowdRiff, a travel-tech company based in Toronto, Canada working with over 800 travel-brands around the world to help them tell their story through locally generated content.
Through Localhood, CrowdRiff connects travel brands looking for authentic stories, with content creators who have stories to tell. All while providing the opportunity for those creators to earn exclusive rewards for the content they produce.
Who can join?
Currently, we’re accepting content creators across specific regions in North America. Check out our Challenges page to see if we have work in your area or an area you visit often. We’re looking for folks who have a passion for story-telling, we don’t care about how many followers you have.
Localhood Stories
What is a Localhood Story?
Visual Stories are the most compelling way to share experiences with the world, and we’ve partnered with Google to bring them to the web, purpose-built for travel content.
Take advantage of interactive video, imagery, and sound to tell your unique stories, and inspire travelers & locals alike to visit hidden gems. Localhood Stories look and feel like a story shared on social, but with the added benefits of being:
- Discoverable: Each Story shared on Localhood can be found with a simple Google search, reaching a much wider audience.
- Evergreen: Localhood Stories don’t disappear after 24 hours; they can always be discovered, for as long as you’d like.
- Actionable: Our swipe-up feature lets Localhood Creators seamlessly pack in more info, tips, and links into each story.
How do I make a Localhood Story?
Using our iOS mobile app! If you’ve already received an invite code, download the Localhood App from the App Store. If you’d like to receive an invite code, simply fill out the application form.
Where do my Localhood Stories get shared?
Your Stories are automatically indexed by Google so they can be found through Google Search and Discover. If you’d like to feature one or more of your Stories on your blog or other web property, reach out to hello@localhood.com and we can coordinate that for you.
A select number of Localhood Stories will also be shared (with credit) by our partner travel brands, such as Visit California or Louisiana Travel. Check out our terms and conditions to learn more.
Using The App
How do I add music to my Story?
Currently, music cannot be added using the Localhood app. Feel free to add music to your clips using a third-party app, then upload them into Localhood. No copyrighted music will be accepted for a Content Challenge.
Can I use voice overs in my videos?
Of course! Anything you add to your Stories to give more insight or detail goes a long way to enhance the value of your Story.
What is a Story panel?
A Story panel is an individual clip or photo that has been added to your story. Be sure to check the details of Content Challenges, as some require a minimum number of panels to be eligible for rewards.
What if I have multiple locations in my Story? How do I tag it?
The location of each panel can be edited separately! If you have multiple locations in a single panel, you can tag a more general location that encompasses a larger area.
For example: if your panel features footage from both San Francisco and San Jose, you can tag California as your location.
Should I always add links to the swipe up?
It’s best practice to add links to your swipe up. Include links to businesses, attractions, or destinations to help increase viewer engagement and improve the likelihood that your Story will be shared by our destination partners for additional exposure and rewards.
Can I edit a Story after it’s been published?
Yes! Edit a published Story by clicking the three dots on the top right corner of the thumbnail. This will trigger the actions menu where you will see an option to edit your Story. Make sure to publish your Story again after edits have been made.
Do my Stories automatically save while I’m editing?
No. Make sure that you save your work if you are planning to exit the app. Publishing or saving a Story may take a few seconds depending on the size of your files, so ensure that you leave the app running in the background until the upload is complete.
Is there an Andriod app?
Localhood is currently only available on iPhone. If you are a creator who would like to join the program but you use Android, please let us know!
