About Destination British Columbia

Destination British Columbia (DBC) aspires to share the transformative power of BC experiences with the world. DBC’s Digital Content team connects global travelers with stories that bring the Super, Natural British Columbia® brand to life through hellobc.com, email, and consumer social media channels. Now, DBC is looking to connect with local creators to produce and share compelling travel experiences, moments, and stories that authentically represent the diverse population and unique experiences of people in BC.

How it Works

We’ve partnered with Destination BC to work with content creators like yourself. You’ll capture authentic content to show off the top spots the province has to offer and get paid for your work! To get started:

  1. Become a Localhood creator
  2. We’ll be in touch via email to help you navigate downloading the app, getting paid for your work, and how to participate in Content Challenges
  3. You’ll be notified of new Content Challenges in your area on a regular basis, or simply scroll down to see what’s available now
  4. Create Localhood Stories through our app for each Content Challenge you’d like to participate in
  5. Get paid for your work and use it to fuel your next adventure!

Be a Tour Guide in Your Own Town

If you had a friend visiting from out of town, what would be the first things you’d want to show them?

DBC wants to know which BC travel experience you enjoy and love, and would recommend to someone who is visiting for the first time. Take us along for the journey while you share either your favourite local business, attraction, tour, or hidden gem in your area. This challenge isn’t about showcasing the most popular spots but rather what makes BC special from a local’s perspective. You can go out and film new content, or dig back into your camera roll to share what you’ve already filmed!

Some questions to get you thinking:

  • What attraction would you visit?
  • What activity would you do?
  • What eats do you need to try?
  • What hidden gem would you explore?
  • Which local business shouldn’t be missed?

Expenses incurred on experiences showcased in the Story are eligible for reimbursement, capped at $75 per Story. This will be paid out on actuals, so hold on to those receipts!

Requirements

  • All Stories must meet the base guidelines
  • The first panel should be an establishing shot photo that gives a sense of place
  • All Stories must follow DBC’s content checklist
  • Expenses must be submitted using this form
  • Each creator can submit one Story for this challenge
  • Please make sure that your submitted stories do not feature any recognizable faces (ie. in FOIPPA compliant) including family members and friends. Alternatively, you can request the other people featured in your story to sign our model content release form. You can download the form here
  • While DBC strives to share as much of British Columbia as possible, to help protect the many places that make it so beautiful, they avoid sharing content of heavily-trafficked parks and natural areas (eg. Joffre Lakes, Garibaldi Lake, Mystic Beach, Botanical Beach). We encourage you to use this as an opportunity to share your favourite lesser-known spots so that we can encourage responsible travel and dispersion around the province!
  • DBC reserves the right to not compensate and/or reimburse expenses for Stories that do not fall under this theme or do not meet the guidelines above

BC Fall Moments

The coziest season is here! It’s the season of harvest, changing colours of leaves and cuddling up when the temperatures are cooling off. This challenge is all about showing us how you embrace the fall season in BC.

Dig back into your camera roll from last fall, or go out and capture content of a new cozy BC experience. Some examples could be…

  • A cozy fall getaway with fireplaces and hot tubs
  • Moments from a fall camping trip
  • Warming up on a rejuvenating Spa or Hot Springs visit
  • Soaking in the fall foliage on a hike or gondola up to overlook the golden valleys and mountains
  • Enjoying the golden afternoon sun in a city surrounded by the changing autumn colours or other places you think are best to see fall leaves
  • Taking in the fall colours on a garden or farm visit
  • Having fun on fall activities like apple picking and pumpkin patches (only without other people in the background)
  • Visiting a seasonal attraction or event
  • Viewing Wildlife habits for example on salmon spawning spots or on the last bear viewing tours
  • “Spend a day with me on a fall day trip”
  • Cozy coastal towns in fall
  • Visiting mountain towns (fall foliage, downtown, cozy cafés)

Rainforest to Rockies

BC is full of jaw-droppingly beautiful places and one-of-a-kind experiences, and one of the best routes to experience all the province has to offer is by journeying from Vancouver on the Pacific Coast to the Canadian Rockies. DBC is inviting you to submit content from along this iconic route, with a focus on showcasing the grandeur, beauty, and uniqueness of various stops along the way. Your epic video content will leave viewers inspired to start planning a trip to experience BC, from the rainforest to the Rockies!

DBC is looking for impactful video content from epic moments along this route such as visiting Yoho National Park, visiting mountain towns like Revelstoke, road-tripping on the Sea-To-Sky highway, and more. Check out all the experiences you can submit content for here, and learn more about Rainforest to Rockies here.
